20.11.2006 marked Pup's arrival and the day we were born into parenthood. It was a marvelous and terrifying moment. There was no looking back. No refund possible. Buyer's remorse? Go deal with it.
Half a decade later (which oddly feels longer yet at the same time seems like a flash), we watched with quiet happiness as Pup celebrated his 5th birthday with his sister and pals at Cove. There's no question about it, we've been sold, through and through.
It's a privilege to be able to partake in a child's growing up years...
Got the Nglets their library cards. With the cards, they have become bona fide library members and can borrow up to 6 books each. To encourage more little bookworms, the library gave out handy bags to new members for the first 6 books that they borrow.
The Nglets were really pleased with having their very own cards (and bags)...more so than the fact that the cards allowed them to borrow books... Haha.
Each year, at about this time, kids and staff at Caterpillar's Cove will be thrown into a state of frenzy for their preparation of their year end concert cum K2 graduation ceremony.
For the past few weeks, we've been getting email reminders from the teachers about the rehearsals, costumes etc. Pup and mei mei would come home singing songs they would be performing.
Last year, we were late for the show as we had to fetch LQ from her infant care. I remember standing at the back of the hall, holding LQ and craning my neck to see Pup.
This year, we made it just in time, sat at the audience seat and watched proudly as LQ put on her first ever performance, and observed with quiet happiness at how at ease Pup has become with his friends on stage.
I must say it's really remarkable what the staff did. It's quite a feat putting together the 'script', props and costumes amidst their packed daily schedule. Even more amazing is the coordination and patience involved to get so many kids from 2-6 years old to do what is required.
LQ and her junior tot class were supposed to be animals on a farm. They performed two songs complete with actions.
Despite looking shell-shocked the whole time she was on stage, LQ did all her moves right on cue. I suspected she was looking for us in the audience seat because her eyes were intently scanning the audience during her class' number. I felt rather anxious that she couldn't see us because she'd asked if we would be watching her perform, and we told her 'Yes!'. So when she came on stage again at the end of the show, and finally looked the right direction and locked eyes with me, I waved. Then, she cried. I could clearly hear her going 'I want Mummy...' Ms C wasn't able to calm her down so she brought her off stage to us. No matter, we are mighty mighty proud of our little girl and think she made a most adorable moo moo cow. :)
Pup had a 'duet' moment when he went on centre stage and stepped (literally) into the limelight with Zachary to briefly and confidently lead their class in singing 'mi fa so...'. It's amazing to see how much he's changed from two years ago. Next year, he and his mates will be performing at their own graduation ceremony. I hope 2012 will go slower than 2011, so that he gets to spend more time with his classmates (some of whom have been with him since they were in junior tot), and more time in the loving and warm environment of the Cove...
We were at Gleneagles Hospital this morning when LQ noticed something 'strange'...The glass door slid open as we approached.
LQ: Look look! The door opened on its own!! Mummy, look! LOOK!
Me: Yes, the door opened on it's own right? It's an automatic door. It can open by itself because it's AUTOMATIC.
LQ: Au^*#%~¥?
Me: Yes, AUTOMATIC. The door opened AUTOMATICALLY. It's an AUTOMATIC door.
LQ: Automaaatic door.
Me: Yes, automatic.
Three hours later. Back home.
I was changing LQ. She was standing up as I tore open one side of her diaper.
We signed the kids up for a gym class at the Jurong Safra Club two weeks ago. Figured it'll be a good way to expend energizer mei-mei's energy and to get the more sedentary Pup to flex his muscles. We love the place as it is spacious, bright and airy. The coaches are all ex-gymnasts (i think). The kids get to tumble, climb, run and bounce (on the trampoline) without getting any disapproving looks from the adults, so they love it!
Last week, after gym class, we ventured to the club's swimming pool and the kids went wild over the water play features and the mini jacuzzi which the volcano-obsessed Pup insisted was a hot spring.
Needless to say, they napped very well that day. I think perhaps we should stick to workout-Sunday for a while, until we can find another way to sap their boundless energy. :p
